I appreciate that.

My tip for newbs is write what you feel is good poetry. What do I think good poetry is?  In general, I think the best poetry is the kind that is relatable without being too familiar, uses fresh language without being too obscure, is honest and personal without appearing maudlin or melodramatic, is imaginative without being overly absurd, and most importantly, says something about life, the universe and/or everything that bears repeating.  Easy, right? ;)

If you want a critique or specific feedback, let me know.

Well.. that's easier said than done I suppose :D

I can relate to all your advice, though. I have been thinking to read
some old poetry, too. Such as Poe's captured my attention. They are dark,
elegant, and sort of melodramatic in some ways, but not exploiting too much.
Any suggestion for good reading? that would help me very much :)

My favorite poets are Plath, Kerouac, ane Ginsburg. Gary Snyder is a good read, too. Lots of others are noteworthy, as well. But maybe that's a good start?

Hi, Shane! It's just lil ole me. :D
Came across another small stumbling block in my poetry writing. Short story. Seems dA has a dark side , along with the good side.
Always a pleasure to open up my Notes and find links to naked men . Hm. What is this world coming to? *sigh*
Oh well, it wont be putting a damper on my chosen themes. But, I am taking a short breather for an hour or so. Calm my head.
So I decided to shoot over to your lovely Gallery and start opening up some of your treasures. :)
I probably won't have time to root around through everything, but I have a full cup of fresh coffee..and I'm going to peruse till my dinner is ready.

No, it irks me. Total strangers thinking I've got nothing better to do, than view their pics. Unbelievable. It takes almost everything in my power not to blow steam with my replies ....
Fortunately, I can take a deep breath ,ignore and delete. No sense getting worked up about it.
Get rid of one and there's always another to take their place. Oh, well, enough of that..:)

you're welcome, Shane.
I didn't get a chance to go through much, but there's always another day. I'm here trying to organize the poems I've faved from others into some semblance of Order. I hadn't thought that I had that many ..considering I've been a member for over 2 years..but when I started shuffling things around,,that's when I realized that this was going to take longer than I had thought.
Yep, those are my plans for this evening. We'll see how it goes.
